Penny has been an artist all her life, working in various mediums, from clay, cement, fibre- glass, paper mâché, mosaics, to acrylic and pen & ink. For Penny, it is not simply enough to draw her ideas from all of nature’s elements. She spends countless hours researching shapes, colours, and textures.
Penny’s relief tile work is sculpture defined, as each mural, mosaic or backslash has hours of fine design and sculptural detail and intricacy. She has numerous completed commissions over the past 20 years. Each of her one-of-a-kind designs is created to suit the space it will inhabit.
She works on large scale sculptures in concrete, for outdoor art.
Penny volunteers as a ski patrol on Whistler Mountain, is very active in the Whistler Arts Community, and WAG. She teaches workshops and guides Art Tours of Galleries and Public Art installations.
She spent her childhood on her family’s ski hill in Ontario, Snow Valley. Penny studied Art and Architecture at the University of Vienna and has a degree in Ski Area/Hotel and Resort Management. She has traveled extensively and lived in many countries, but has made Whistler BC her home for the past 20 years. She is the founder of the White Dog Studio Gallery winning best gallery in Whistler- Now called the white Dog Art Haus.
Her work can be seen in public art commissions, hotels, restaurants, and numerous private collections. The 8 foot fiberglass spirit Bear “Ursus-Intrawestus” inside the Roundhouse on top of Whistler Mountain is a familiar piece to many thousands of Whistler skiers and visitors.
